Raising money

Raising moneySince Robert Baden-Powell began the scouting movement more than 100 years ago, it has gone from strength to strength and encompasses national scout organisations throughout the world. Every year in the UK, boys between six and 25 benefit from membership of their local scout troop.

The comprehensive pages and information provided at twyningscouts.org.uk allows site visitors to gain details of all facets of the movement in the county of Gloucestershire. The pages have sections on indoor and outdoor activities; forthcoming events, camps and hikes, achievement badges, and venues and times of scout troop meetings.

Twyningscouts.org.uk also has information on any activities that are raising money for either their own troop, charity or for scouts to attend the current year’s World Scout Jamboree. Part of the scouting programme’s training revolves around selflessness. Troops often get involved with raising money for good causes.

One popular activity for scout troops trying to gain funds is the recycling of gadgets and appliances that include old mobile phones, computer printer cartridges, computer hardware and sound and vision appliances. Scouts on raising money drives often do odd jobs around people’s homes, which reminds older citizens of Bob-a-job Week.

During the year scout troops often organise raising money jumble sales and summer fairs, which provide the general public with great entertainment and the opportunity of getting somebody’s castoffs at bargain prices. Unused scout uniforms, accessories and camping kit can often be found among the used goods in the sales.
